about

I always loved ambient, atmospheric, meditative music since I was in the high school, at that time the yoga-music concept as we know it nowadays was not existing, and ambient music was considered something rather experimental and "avant-garde" (after all, the fathers of ambient music were strange fellows like Erik Satie, Brian Eno, Harold Budd…). Nowadays the idea of yoga-music became much more mainstream, but, in my view, also more banal and stereotyped. Typically accepted clichè/dogmas in modern yoga-music are: if is acoustic is more spiritual (why?). If it is made with a harmonium is more traditional (in reality the harmonium is a modern French instrument that has nothing to do with the yoga tradition), Yoga-music has to be Indian (non Indian music is less spiritual?). It should be without drums (actually the traditional instrument for Indian kirtans was the mridangam, which is a drum). It should be a bit sad (why? Meditation doesn’t mean sadness, rather the opposite).
So, with this new album I tried to break some of these dogmas that unconsciously we created in modern yoga. I mixed kirtans (mantra chanting) with electronic music, I tried to use instruments and melodies from various traditions (Chinese, African, Middle East) and not only Indians.
I believe that in these times of conflicts we need to create bridges between different cultures and traditions instead of building up new walls. So, I hope that this album of heterogeneous music will give a humble contribution in that direction and that will inspire the listeners to perceive spirituality as something universal rather than specifically related to one tradition.
And, beside all that, it was just great fun to mix together aesthetics from different cultures 🙂
The 50% of the profit from the purchase of the album will go to the philanthropic charity inspired by yoga principles AMURT.
